 Product Description

Baked Pita Chips

SHILOH FARMS Whole Wheat Pitas are hearth baked with the wonderful old-world texture and taste. The "pocket" in pita bread is created by steam, which puffs up the dough. As the bread cools and flattens, a pocket is left in the middle. When removed from the oven, the layers of baked dough remain separated inside the deflated pita, which allows the bread to be opened into pockets, creating a space for use in various dishes. People fill the pockets with various ingredients to form a sandwich.

  2. Second review---new recipe for WFPB folks

Posted by Pam Coyle on 11th Apr 2018

I finally have a homemade hummus recipe we like, made with no oil or tahini (I backed off from the half-tahini after hearing Dr. Esselstyn say "not one drop"). The thing is, it needs a generous teaspoon of cumin and of salt, and 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice, for 2 cans of garbanzos to make up for the lack of oil and tahini. But what to eat them with? Of course, PITA CHIPS. But I can't have EVOO anymore. Ok, just cut the pitas in half, then in fourths, then separate the layers, spread them on a jelly roll pan, and bake at 400 for about 5 minutes. Timer on 5, and watch them. One pita makes 8 chips, or more if you cut them smaller. Super crisp, and delicious. Perfect for those of us trying to prevent or reverse heart disease, with the Whole Food Plant Based lifestyle, a la Forks Over Knives. I did not miss the oil being brushed on the pita at all. This is the only kind of bread we eat!! I order a case at a time.

  3. No-oil, no-sugar Pita Bread

Posted by Pam Coyle on 14th Mar 2018

I could not find a pita with no oil in stores. This pita tastes great, and I order a case at a time and put them straightaway into the freezer. I take them out one pack at a time, take them out of their bag, and let them thaw on the counter, turning once. Store in the fridge in their bag (be sure to invert the bag and let dry before returning the pita to the bag for refrigeration. Toast in a toaster by cutting them in half moon, separating the layers in you like that result. I make no-oil, half-tahini hummus at home, and pita to the rescue for that also: Cut the pita into fourths, separate the layers and make 8 pita chips out of one pita by baking them for 5 minutes in a 400 degree oven on a jellyroll pan, all spread out. No oil needed! Let them cool to room temp and then store in a zip-lock bag. Perfect for dipping in hummus.

  4. Next best pita bread to home made

Posted by Don on 27th Jun 2014

These pita breads are excellent. The only better I have ever tasted are homemade ones. I'll be buying these during the summer when I don't have time to bake.

  5. Wonderful ww pitas

Posted by Giulietta on 18th Oct 2013

I'm happy to say that these whole wheat pitas are the best I've found in taste and wholeness. If you warm them just a little, they puff up and smell like they were freshly made and just came from the oven. They're really delicious.
