1. Substitute apple sauce for vegetable oil in equal parts. (And it contains less fat!)
2. shortening (use ¼ more) or (in baking) fold stiffly beaten egg whites into the batter
3. In most recipes, applesauce works wonders. Use half of the called for amount of oil and then replace the rest with applesauce. The results are always moist and delicious, you can't tell the difference. Another suggestion is using prune puree
4. As weird as it sounds any where they mention oil or butter in a recipe you can substitute apple sauce. It works and it doesn't really disrupt the flavor.
5. There is nothing else that works like oil in cooking. Coconut oil is one of the healthiest, and you can get two types, one that has coconut flavor and one that is nearly tasteless. Go for cold pressed extra virgin coconut oil.
6. If you are out - You can use butter or margarine in equal measure. It does make things richer and it will save you a trip to the store.
7. Some people use applesauce as an oil substitute, and it is a lot healthier than butter. But it depends on what you are cooking.
